About Matt Plambeck
Matt loved every aspect of theatre. From his stage debut at age 7, playing one of 26 morning poppies in Mt. Diablo Elementary's "Mary's Dream in Poppyland", to stagehand, singer, dancer, actor, producer, assistant director, board member and supporter.
At Clayton Valley High, Matt's love of theatre really began to take shape. He progressed to a featured "award winning" player in such productions as David & Lisa (Ben), South Pacific (Yeoman Quale), Take Her She's Mine (1st Freshman), Romeo & Juliet (Friar John) and most significantly to him and those who saw his award winning performance, as Charlie Gordon in Flowers for Algernon.
Community theatre offered Matt a place to explore new roles and larger productions. Through the next twenty plus years, Matt continued to explore the rich variety of theatre opportunities available in Conta Costa. It was during this time that Matt made his first contact with Contra Costa Musical Theatre, an association that would provide Matt a place to utilize his wide variety of talents both onstage and off.
Although receiving the coveted Shellie Award for his portrayal of Jigger Cragen in CCMT's Carousel was a highlight in Matt's theatre career, what Matt valued the most was the close friendships and associations that he made along the way. Matt cherished his friends most of all. And it is because of him, and the long list of people that called him their friend, that the Matt Plambeck Scholarship was created. His last show for CCMT was portraying Bert Bratt in "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying".
The CCMT Board members, along with the family and friends of Matt, are honored to memorialize his giving spirit by offering this scholarship to deserving high school graduates who desire to follow in his glowing example.
